Trailer definition:A trailer or preview is an advertisement or a commercial for a feature film that will be exhibited in the future at a cinema. The term "trailer" comes from their having originally been shown at the end of a feature film screening.
differences between a teaser trailer and a trailer
- teaser trailer is shorter in length whereas a trailer is usually longer
- A trailer explores the narrative in more depth, outlining the characters whereas a teaser only hints at the story
- the teaser is released in advance and ceases circulating when the film is approaching by which the trailer is then shown
- A trailer is more straightforward whereas the teaser is meant to leave the reader confused
- The teaser is usually shot before the filming has began, meaning that in can change whereas the trailer is a more accurate representation of what the film is about
- Teasers usually have either minimal dialogue or none whereas film trailers often have an undercurrent of dialogue throughout be it non-diegetic or diegetic
- Often a teaser can repeat the same clip or perhaps backtrack throughout the piece- which is something that I would like to replicate in our year 13 project-whereas a trailer shows a wide variety of clips
- the trailer usually has background information such as director, score of music, characters ect whereas a teaser is simply shots instead of a film
Similarities
- They both have the same predominant purpose to entice a certain target audience, taking into consideration whether it would be a niche audience, women, men, young, old or a general audience
- They are both to advertise the film and therefore to generate financial income
