creating a hospital letter for my scenes in tomorrows filming

Above here is the hospital letter which I used as a template for my hospital letter .
This was in order to make the hospital letter look authentic as though it was an actual hospital letter.
This is the hospital letter which I have compiled which unfortunately is not very clear but this is fine because I will be taking pictures of the shots we take, but you have a clear idea that it looks like an authentic hospital letter.

EDITING 29TH FEB

I began by showing Charley the underworld film love scene starring Kate Beckinsale in order to show her the effectiveness of certain scenes which I have outlined in a previous post. She thought the idea of subtlety was a good one especially since we'd be showcasing our film to our peers and the last thing we want is for them to think that that is what our whole film is about, instead of them understanding that is about being betrayed by the people you love most, particularly when you are in the early stages of cancer.
Next we began editing  and put our shots into the timeline, not placing them in chronological order as we needed to get shots edited first before we thought of ordering the film. Working with Adobe  turned out to be very difficult in this lesson as we encountered several problems such as freezing, saying it was out of memory uploading shots with no pictures. In the end we called IT and they fixed this for us.

We then began cutting shots where Chris and Amiee was laughing which ended up being quite a few shots. Here are the following edits that we made:

  • In one of the shots where the camera pans up Chris and Amiee's body, the shot ends in them laughing and looking directly into the camera. We cut this out completely since we filmed this particular shot quite a few times.
  • In one particular shot Chris pushed Amiee onto the bed in lust and passion. I suggested that we cut the shot to the point where Chris has pushed her and then use them on the bed in conjunction with the other bed shots. However I also suggested that we cut them moving on the bed out following the advice of Nicole.
  • In one of the pan shots I noticed that Chris bit his lip which looked really effective and suggested that we cut it there. Charley then had the good idea of placing a normal pan up shot into this shot before transcending into a two shot/close up where Chris looks up at Amiee, with wide eyes as though he cannot believe his luck. This looked very effective.
  • We then noticed in one of the earlier shots that alot of inappropriate material such as hangers and a sticker on the floor where in the shot so we cut this out of the scene.
Then at the end of the lesson we quickly discussed when we would be filming and editing as we have only got two weeks until our deadline:
Tomorrow( Thursday the 1St of March) period one, two and possibly 3- filming
Friday 2nd March period one and after school
Sunday 4th March afternoon
Monday 5th March Editing 2nd period
Tuesday 6th March Editing after school
Wednesday- possibly
Friday 9th March after school

quick idea-Underworld Evolution - Kate Beckinsale Love Scene

My friend Nicole looked at the footage we had filmed so far and made a valuable comment on the content and the nature of the film. To her the symbolism of lust and passion was quite subtle yet erotic at the same time, whereas some of the shots we had produced were quite erotic in the sense that there was too much exposure. She told me to look at the love scene in the underworld film starring Kate Beckinsale. I have included it above and have made a quick analysis on it.

  1. The non-diegetic soundtrack is quite a slow and gloomy piano composition similar to what we want to do. However ours will be sightly more dramatic and fast paced in scenes which Amiee and Chris are in.
  2. The opening shot can be compared to our two shot of Chris and Amiee kissing and stroking each others hair.

3. I quite like this shot as it is quite passionate without being overly dramatic.
Perhaps we should replicate it in our film with Chris undoing Amiee's back zip
or something similar.
4.Nicole suggested that we should get Amiee to replicate this scene as it shows lust in an effectively
erotic manner. The use of lighting is the key element here as it highlights the intimacy of the two people, particularly emphasizing Kate's belly button.

media filming Friday 3rd February 2012

Today we did some more of Amiee and Chris's scenes as well as a quick shot of me.The reason that there is a predominant focus on them is due to my scenes being longer and more complex to carry out; and thus we want to complete their scenes first.
We began  on the same thematics of last time e.g. passion and lust so of course the shots reflected this. However this time the shots were slightly more erotic e.g. in one particularly scene we had cleverly constructed it so that it appeared they weren't wearing any clothes.

We began by doing a two shot of Chris and Amiee in bed together moving frantically in passion( note some of this will be edited to be slightly less erotic as we don't want that to be the focus of the film because it would completely defeat the objective of our romantic genre film). Costume use involved Chris being shirtless and Amiee slipping down her straps so it looks as though they are both undressed. This then transcends into a track of them slipping under the covers and then moving under the covers, a flash of legs slipping out both Chris and Amiee's intertwined .

We then did a point of view shot of Amiee pursuing Chris and throwing him back onto the  bed- note all the shots that took place were  repeated several times. This shot was duplicated but instead with Chris throwing Amiee on the bed , before transcending into a close- up as they disappear from view.
We then did a shot of me and Chris in bed and the difference was made to made to be extremely visible.Chris had his back turned against the wall whilst I was at the other end of the bed reading a book, before turning to face Chris,. sighing and then turning off the lamp which made quite  a good effect and symbolises the destruction of our love.

Editing

In today's lesson we were meant to have done some editing, however because Charley is absent from this lesson and has the footage, we are unable to do so.I have thus decided to do screenshots of Adobe, showing all the elements that it has to offer.

This is the adobe home screen, as you can see it is quite simplistic in the manner that everything is easy to access .For example the large percentage of the screen is a ' Yacht' photo to express the possibilities of filming and using editing to capture them in a certain  light.Primarily it has 4 options within this photo: learning more information, instant movie, open project and new project. For us we will have to open a new project and render then upload our footage that we have so far.At the top it goes file, edit, clip, time line, disc, title window and help and to the right of the screen are options of saving, undoing, redoing and full screen. These options are generally followed by little symbols which makes it easier for us to edit.

This next print screen shows the stages in opening a new project, here you have options of naming it, saved location, project settings, browsing the settings  and changing settings. The good thing about adobe is although it does have complicated effects etc it explains each one clearly so that even a non media student would be able to figure out which stages to follow. As an example I have overwritten our animatic since it has already been uploaded to Youtube.

This next screen shot goes to the actual editing screen. To the left of the screen is the black screen which shows where the film footage will be played and there options of speeding it up, or slowing it down. This would be particularly useful for our footage as speeding it conforms to the conventions of a teaser trailer .It also allows you to go to previous edit point , for example if we decided to change the editing sequence we have just done then we can automatically change it.The next object is the mobillity of rewinding it.The effect of this allows you to go back to a particular point in the film. There is also step back left and step foward right , which quite simply goes backwards and forwards one time, more effective than rewinding , especially if we had alot of footage.

EDITING 20TH FEB

Primarily we began by uploading all the footage. However because this took a large amount of time, we were unable to do a substantial amount. Then we  transferred all the screen shots onto Adobe premeire elements and created a new file called filming media. Lastly we did a screenshot of  all our footage on Adobe and transferred it over to paint to showcase all of what we had done today.Unfortunately we ran out of time, so next time we have a lesson we can really concentrate on the actual editing.

editing Thursday 9th February 2012

Primarily  we began by rendering our footage in order to it to flow in a smooth sucession.Once this was done we then had to copy it over to our documents and saved it as 'trailer'.We then transferred it over to Adobe premiere elements and again named it trailer just because we know that we will have alot of editing to do so we are just calling it something which we will remember. This allows it to come up with the loading box- adding media which then imports all of our shots. We then dragged it over to our timeline randomly just so we had footage for present before we order it, edit ,or delete shots ect. This accounts to 3 minutes 13 seconds in total of footage, but they are very quick shots. After this we rendered our 25 shots on Adobe, which took quite a long time due to large video size.To establish what we were doing we decided to print screen and this shows some of the shots taken, so it gives a wide overview of the whole piece.

practising creations of film posters

Firstly I decided to choose symbolism in terms of what motifs I would like to represent each character. For example my first search result was crying eyes, ,just because I feel that it sums up the film overall,  a symbolism of the bitterness embedded in each of the characters.

Here is the search results generated
I then decided to pick this eye for the purpose of the sepia effect which heightens the misery that the woman is facing. For example this can represent me.I also like the shadowing effect where it goes from darker to lighter gradually, which makes it seem artistic and abstract in a sense. The use of just one eye from a side angle, that has the person turned away from the camera, depicts the persons loneliness as she is unable to face company. The single tear is streaked across her face, but she is evidently wearing waterproof mascara as there is no sign of smudged makeup. So if we were to use a picture similar to this I suggest that we should have black mascara heavily streaked across the face.
I then decide to search passionate couple to add an erotic element to the film which would represent the lust between Aimee and Chris.
For example a picture like this is not overly erotic that it would conform to another genre, but certainly you are able to denote that there is a fiery passion between the couple.Notice how the couple are tilted towards each other, where the man is leant back in a submissive pose whilst the woman has the power and control over the man.In our case we should have equal positioning in order to show that they are both responsible for the conseqeunces of their actions, although I am not sure how we are going to do this.

My next search result was lonely woman to depict their derilict state.
Something like this would be perfect as she is hidden behind the metal curtain, suggesting that she is trapped in her own misery. The fact that she is hunched over and disguised implies that she is too caught up in her own woes to notice the world around her.I really like this photo but I am unsure as to whether we could incoperate something like this into our poster considering that the poster has to look authentic.
This was my search result for hurt, something like this would be brillant is the use of the blood implies that the person will do anything to achieve love, depite the fact that it cannot be attained. The fact that it is etched on to her back depicts that with love comes pain, even in the smoothest of relationships. The most predominant feature of this picture is the frosted glass effect as it adds to the pervading atmosphere.I would love to use a photo like this because it would be different and would be something that goes against the norms of romance films.Perhaps we could have the title ' bitter twisted lies' on my back as she is here' with a tagline e.g. sometimes love becomes your worst nightmare or sometimes the person you love the most is your betrayer. Alternatively we could have a collage or montage of cast shots and that would be imprinted on my back. This would make an interesting effect and with our previously aqquired skills from photoshop and illustrator we can create something to our taste.

My next search was photoshop film posters and here I found a list of 50.I have picked the best ones which may not be the same genre as ours but capture the menancing edge of our film e.g. gothic elements. I have also included the link should you wish to have a further look at what this site has to offer.http://psd.tutsplus.com/articles/inspiration/brilliantly-photoshopped-movie-posters/

I then searched romance film posters. Here is the link http://psd.tutsplus.com/tutorials/designing-tutorials/professional-film-poster-photoshop/ which allows you to create professional romance film posters. However although it is for a romantic comedy there are elements which we could use in our own.It gives you a step by step guide on how to create a poster and it should be interesting seeing how this pans out.
