Editing 13th March 2012 period 5-

  • Quick ideas:
  • Thought that instead of using a voice over, we would use an intertitle instead saying ' they were two best friends' before the car scene but keep the voice over ' but then everything changed' as this is quite effective.
  • Researched preview screen trailers- green trailer which says suitable for the following audiences but I'm not sure if this is typical of a teaser trailer so I will have to find out whether it is or not.
  • Deleted the audio from all of the clips aside from the dialogue in the argument scene- this was because  we decided that we didn't need most of the sound as it was quite disjointed.
  • Then tried converting the clock ticking noise  into an mpeg in order to put it on Adobe ,which I had found yesterday on Mediaconverter.org but it did not convert as it froze at the midway point.
  • Then made an intertitle ' from the makers of ' The Proposal' to conform to the conventions of a standard film trailer even though its a teaser trailer- teasers still use typical generic conventions associated with a trailer. We also put the transition dip to black in order to transcend into the next scene effectively.
  • Deleted all of the end scene asides from the bit where I looked shocked and am crying.
  • Cut out the far shot of me and Amiee walking down the path because we felt that it wasn't applicable to our trailer anymore at this present stage.
  • Cut the argument scene where Chris goes ' Iv had enough of your fucking' and then shortened it to ' I've had enough' so that it flows more coherently and makes sense as well in terms of the narrative.
  • Then in the sofa scene we muted part of the sound at the end to cut the television audio, so that it connects better with the next scene and gives it a sense of continuity editing.
  • Printed hospital letter off in case we needed to put it in our film.
  • Did a 4 way split screen of me and Amiee- shot one me coming out of the toilet with the pregnancy test looking distraught, shot 2 Amiee going towards the camera with the pregnancy test looking worried. Shot 3 me rubbing my stomach and shot 4 Amiee doing the same. This was inspired by 500 days of summer, which used a 2 way expectations vs reality scene which we really liked and decided to use in our own. Like Keith Barry Grant said there must always be an element of ' repetition vs difference'. Although our film is a conventionally Romantic Drama genre and adheres to it constantly, it does use a 4 way spilt screen usually associated with postmodern films, which shows us deviating from the norms slightly but not so much that it is unfamiliar to the audience.
  • Encountered severe problems with Adobe Premeire Elements as it kept deleting our work again and not loading our footage.
  • render all the footage in order to make the transition from each scene to the next smooth.
  • Deleted the scene of Charley calling Mrs Styan please come with me, to make the teaser seem more ambiguous
  • Took photos of part of the hospital letter for it to look mysterious
