editing 7th March

We began this lesson by encountering another problem, which involved enabling an activation code, something which I had not encountered before so it took a little while to figure out what the code actually was. Next we rendered the footage again as the previous day the progress had been lost due to the faulty nature of Adobe, so this time when editing we made sure that we saved throughout. Here are the following edits which we made during my frees 1st and second lesson:

  • We were discussing order placement and I suggested to Charley that we could have the extreme closeup of my eye shot( where its closed and then it quickly blinks open and wide then zooms in) transcending into the shot of me looking in the mirror. Charley suggested that if we do that then we need to do the redo the eye shot because it didn't really work that well last time we attempted it.
  • Cut the bed moving scene between Amiee and Chris out completely because it is just too over the top and does not look effective and although Charley wanted to keep it just in case it could be put somewhere we decided in the end to just get rid of it.
  • we then cut the clip of  reading in bed at the point where I turn off the light and its goes pitch black- so we just cut it there because it carried on afterwards.
  • One of the shots that I had deleted yesterday Charley said we should keep because she said it dosent matter that its so dark since they are entering a dark room.
  • We then wondered how we were able to speed things up, so we went to timeline and then entered time- stretch of a 110% speed, only an extra 10% just to see what effect it has because obviously we will make it a lot faster in the real thing.
  • Delete the random black screen
  • Cut our original pan up of Charley and Chris completely because I decided that the more I watched the more I didnt like it because I kept noticing little details that just weren't fitting.
  • Delete one of the newspaper reading scenes where im talking to Charley
  • Deleted several mirror scenes because they were either shaky or didnt work, but I kept one of them because it was the best one.
  • Deleted the scene where im hanging the washing out because it didnt look very realistic as I was only putting my coat up and in reality a house wife would be putting a whole basket of washing up.
  • Delete shaky parts from when I am walking to the kitchen and cut it to where im at the door and then it transcends to me already being in the kitchen. We then shortened this sequence and  cut out the kitchen pan.
  • Cut out the pan of me on the chair, as the camera was quite jolty since it was being filmed handheld.
  • make  the scene where im rubbing my belly sequence shorter
  • Cut several car scenes of me and Amiee including where Amiee looks out the window and the pan around the car because it was quite shaky
  • Cut out roundabout screen where the camera jolts round because it just didnt look effective.
  • Cut the pan of a point of view shot of me walking up a path- camera is too shaky
  • cut bit where me and Amiee are near the shopping centre skipping
  • Cut the doctor surgery scene up to where I have more door on the handle. Thinking now we should have made this a closeup of my hand opening it.
  • We then sped the timeline even more and put it as 125% and this proved quite effective although we will make it faster but we are only testing it out to see if it works.
  • Finally we checked the timescale and we have 1 min 59 of footage and there is still footage to be shot so we have alot of work to do in such a short amount of time.
We also used period 2 of MR Oswick's lesson to do some editing:
- first of all we had a quick think... I was looking back at the script and remembered the idea of a wedding scene so i thought that we could use Charley's idea of the still photo shot so i need to email the bridesmaid photo of myself as well as tomorrow shooting the hospital letter scene and on friday doing all our other shots. Also we thought of using a non- linear narrative effect by reversing our end scene and actually making it our starting scene and our end scene being me with my hand on the door about to go into the house.
  • Also voiceovers need to be incoperated but we can have a little think about that sometime alter this week. However I did think that where im sitting on the bench talking to Amiee we could have a voice over saying they were two best friends
  • We need to get Amiee to do the belly rubbing scene so we can do a juxtaposed screen. As we didnt know how to do a juxtaposed screen we asked sir if he could help us and he played with a few things to try to figure out how including the following:
  • interlacing consecutive frames?
  • trying to find youtube videos
  • searching tag.wonderhow.com
  • heron productions
  • one of the searches said that we should go on one line, put a video on another and then split screens by moving windows. However this did not work as it made no difference
  • Then we searched Adobe forum and they said that we should crop the upper video and layer each clip on top of each other but when we tried this it only allowed us to select it.
This is a photo we could use but have Chris with me instead in it.
